Cyber Bullying: The Repercussions

First things first: bullying by definition is when an individual goes out of their way to inflict pain on another individual physically, verbally, or emotionally. Another thing to add is that there are various forms of bullying and it can happen anywhere. Examples of these are physical bullying, verbal bullying, emotional intimidation, racist bullying, sexual bullying, and cyberbullying.

Like the name suggests, cyberbullying happens on cyberspace or rather, "the internet." Examples of this form of bullying include but are not limited to hate raiding (typically happens on live-streaming services), internet trolling, threats, sexual remarks or any other inappropriate comments, hate speech, humiliation of the targeted individual, doxing (leaking someone's personal information), impersonation, and so much more.

Personally speaking, I find it absolutely horrendous that there are people out there who take time out of their day to make people feel horrible about themselves and enjoy doing so. And as someone who has experienced some of the forms of bullying mentioned above and has also had to witness certain people around me deal with it too, it is absolutely appalling that there are people who take pleasure in hurting people around them.

And cyberbullying, like the other forms of bullying I mentioned above, can take a toll on the individual going through it. It comes with serious repercussions and sometimes there are people who have taken their own life or have dealt with depression. Some people might have even been afraid to speak up in fear of what would happen to them.

So therefore, it is important that we have a support system like an authority figure so that they can help create an environment where this behavior can be abolished.
